For the municipality of Bauma, Websitemaster developed chronik-bauma.ch, a comprehensive digital archive platform designed to preserve and present the historical records of the community in a modern and accessible way.
The website was built on the WordPress CMS and significantly extended through the development of a custom WordPress plugin. This plugin serves as the technical backbone of the platform and enables the management of complex historical content structures.
A key component of the system is the implementation of custom post types, allowing different categories of historical records—such as events, documents, images, and thematic entries—to be organized and managed in a structured way.
In addition, the platform includes a feature for historical tours, enabling visitors to explore the municipality’s history through curated chronological or thematic storylines. These tours provide an engaging way to navigate through different periods and milestones of Bauma’s past.
To support efficient research within the large historical archive, a powerful AJAX-based search system was implemented. This allows users to dynamically search across all content without page reloads, significantly improving usability and performance.
The result is a platform that combines modern web design, advanced WordPress plugin development, and structured digital archiving, ensuring that Bauma’s historical heritage is preserved and made easily accessible for both residents and visitors.
